May 2012... Congratulations to Wallington C who have won Division 3. They edged ahead of last season's winners West Wickham 3 on game points, both teams having scored 5.5 match points.


March 2012... Five teams took part in the 2012 Bielski Cup, hosted as usual by South Norwood Chess Club. Two teams shared first prize: South Norwood A and Streatham.


October 2011... The 2011/12 season is under way with two new teams in Division 3 - Lewisham and South Croydon Bus Garage. We also welcome back CCF, who this season have entered teams in Divisions 1 and 2.


September 2011... Our AGM and fixtures meeting is on Monday 3 October at Crystal Palace Chess Club, starting at 7.45 pm. Croydon League team captains and club officials are welcome to attend.


June 2011... 17 players from Croydon League clubs participated in this year's Trost Trophy, held at Crystal Palace Chess Club on 6 June. Robin Haldane took first prize with 7.5/9, Angus French came second with 7/9 and Ian Snape third with 6/9. David Moss took the grading prize. For the full table, click here.


April 2011... It looks like a clean sweep for West Wickham, who have already won Divisions 1 and 2 and look set to take Division 3. That's a remarkable achievement and congratulations to the three team captains - Sue Maguire, John Lewin and Howard Walden.


March 2011... Congratulations to South Norwood A, winner of the 2011 Bielski Cup with a score of 17.5 points. Streatham took second place with 12 points.


February 2011... The Bielski Cup five minute team tournament will be held at South Norwood on Thursday 24 February at 7.30 pm. Teams are four boards with a total grade limit of 750. Entries to Martin Cath by phone (020 9660 6252).


November 2010... The website has been updated and two new features added. The latest version of the full rules can be downloaded by clicking on the link at the bottom of the 'playing rules' page, and Angus's new results form can be downloaded - to find the link for this scroll down the 'fixtures and results' page.


September 2010... This year's AGM and fixtures meeting will be held at Crystal Palace Chess Club on Monday 4 October at 7:45 pm.


May 2010... Well done Streatham B, this year's winners of the Martin Cath Trophy with 3.5 points from 6. Once again, Division 2 was tightly contested with the final match of the season deciding the outcome.


May 2010... This year's Trost Trophy winner was Matthew Dodsley with 8.5/10. John McKinnon was second and Marek Turowski third. Robert Wagstaff took the grading prize. Click here for the full results.


April 2010... The 2010 Trost Trophy will be held on Monday 10 May, starting at 7.45 pm. This year for the first time the event will be a lightning handicap tournament with stronger players having less time on their clocks. There is a cash prize of £50 for the winner with runners-up prizes of £30 and £10 for the second and third placed players, and there is a £10 grading prize. April 2010... West Wickham A are this year's Division 3 champions. They secured the title on 12 April with a win over Crystal Palace, which took their score for the season to an impressive 8.5 points from 9 with one match left to play.


March 2010... Well done West Wickham, who have won the Croydon Shield for the second successive season with 5 points from a possible 6. They completed their fixtures on 11 March with a 3-1 win over Streatham A.


February 2010... A strong Crystal Palace team won the 2010 Bielski Cup on 25 February with 18 points. The South Norwood A team were close behind with 16.5 points.

September 2009... The 2009 AGM and fixtures meeting will be held at Crystal Palace on Monday 28 September, starting at 7:45 pm.


May 2009... Congratulations to West Wickham C, winners of the Croydon Shield in their first season in Division 1. They scored a perfect 6/6, beating Streatham, winners in 2007 and 2008, into second place. Castles won a tightly contested Division 2, while in Division 3 Streatham 3 edged out West Wickham A on game points.


May 2009... Callum Kilpatrick won the Trost Trophy for the second year in succession, scoring an impressive 5.5/6. Geoffrey Makumbi was second with 4.5 and and Robin Haldane third with 4. The grading prize was shared between Robert Wagstaff and Matthew Dodsley.


May 2009... This year is the 50th anniversay of the Trost Trophy, and to mark the occasion we have increased the prizes to £50 for the winner, £30 for the runner up, and £10 for the third placed player. There is also a £10 grading prize. The Trophy will be contested on Monday 11 May 2009 at Crystal Palace Chess Club's venue in Sydenham, starting at 7:45pm. This is a fun six-round tournament played at lightning speed – you make a move every 10 seconds when the buzzer sounds. It costs just £2.00 to enter. September 2008... At the AGM on 29 September we welcomed a new club to our league – Castles Junior Chess Club based at Whyteleafe School in Surrey. Castles have entered a team in Division 2, replacing Dulwich who no longer have a team in this division. South Norwood have taken their A team out of Division 1 – its place is taken by West Wickham who now have three teams in the league.


May 2008... Well done Streatham A who have retained the Croydon Shield. They won Division 1 with a score of 4.5/6, half a point ahead of second-placed CCF A.


May 2008... West Wickham A are this year's Division 3 champions and winners of the Dave Luckin Trophy with a near-perfect 6.5/7 – 2.5 points ahead of their nearest rivals, Dulwich C and Streatham C.


April 2008... Congratulations to CCF B who have won the Martin Cath Trophy at the first attempt with a game in hand. They made sure of top place in Division 2 with a win over South Norwood on 3 April.


April 2008... The 2008 Trost Trophy was won by Callum Kirkpatrick of Dulwich Chess Club with an awesome 6/6. Streatham's Robin Haldane came second with 4.5/6.


March 2008... This year's Trost Trophy will be held on Monday 31 March 2008 at Crystal Palace Chess Club's venue in Sydenham, starting at 7:45pm. This is a fun six-round tournament played at lightning speed – you make a move every 10 seconds when the buzzer sounds. The winner takes a prize of £30. There are also prizes for the two runners up and for the best performances by players graded under 130 and under 100. It costs just £2.00 to enter. February 2008... Well done South Norwood 1, winners of the 2008 Bielski Cup. The Streatham team came second.


February 2008... The 2008 Bielski Cup will be contested on Thursday 28 February at South Norwood Chess Club, starting at 7:30pm. This is a lightning tournament for four-board teams – each player has just five minutes per game. There is an upper grading limit of 700 per team. The entry fee is £5 per team and there are cash prizes. To enter a team, email David Hodgson or call him on 020 8663 2553.


September 2007... This years AGM and Fixtures Meeting will be held at Crystal Palace's venue (St Phillips Church Hall, Coombe Road, Sydenham) on Monday 8 October starting at 7:45 pm.


August 2007... With the 2007/08 season fast approaching, we are delighted to welcome Cousldon Chess Fellowship (CCF) and Battersea Chess Club to the Croydon League. CCF will be entering teams in all three divisions and Battersea will be entering a team in Division 3.
